Hi Alison,
Happy New Year!
I've been meaning to write to you since I attended the KPG&B course back in October. I really enjoyed the course and found it so beneficial. Since attending the course, I've despatched our 5 boys and prepared them in many different ways - the first couple I tried to bone, but seemed to have forgotten everything I learned on the course!! But then it all came back to me for the other three and I feel quite happy and confident preparing the birds.
Regards, Dave
Chicken Keeper Book
Chicken Keeping is a joy. You will have a constant supply of the most yummy eggs you have ever had and the fun of watching your hen’s personalities develop as they go about their day, chatting to each other whilst looking for tasty morsels in the ground. I want to encourage every one who is considering keeping a few chickens in the garden to take the plunge and go for it. You will be amazed at how friendly and tame the chickens become and how much fun they are to have around.
I originally wrote this book to accompany the Chicken Keeper courses I run, but it has now grown to a point where it has become a book in its own right and I hope it will both inspire you to order your hen house now and reassure you that you will be able to cope with all eventualities in this most rewarding of hobbies.
The book is £15 with free P&P or collect from Hook Farm for Alison to personalise it to you. If ordering for postage, please send a cheque, payable to Hook Farm Chickens, to Hook Farm, London Rd, Hook RG27 9EQ.

Chicken Keeper Website
This website gives you details of the popular Chicken Keeper courses, which we run from March to September each year. They are usually held on a Sunday morning and run on the second and fourth Sundays in the month. Alternative dates or times can be arranged if a Sunday morning does not suit you. Click on the Courses tab for an overview of the topics covered on the course.
We also run Kill, Pluck, Gut and Bone courses which are 'hands on' and much better than they sound. Both courses have restricted numbers to ensure individual attention. A quick view of course dates for both courses and start times is on the right of this page. The Courses page gives more details on each course.
We have a range of hybrids in stock at any time so click on the Hybrid tab for details of the hybrids and availability. Feel free to contact Alison through the Contact link at the bottom of each page to discuss your requirements, as different hens suit different environments.
We stock a range of hen houses, including second hand ones, poultry equipment and essentials to start you on your new and fascinating hobby, as well as a food starter pack to get you started immediately. Housing is the most expensive part of setting up, so come and see us before you buy and we will go through the options with you. We are committed to finding the right set up for you.
We have recently launched an exciting incubator hire service. To book an incubator for the magic of watching chicks hatch at home, or to sponsor one for your child’s class at school, click on the Incubator Hire tab for more details. We will take the chicks back if you do not want to keep them, so it is a perfect educational tool at home and at school with no commitment to keeping the chicks. As well as home, school or nursery hire we have an emergency incubator hire for precious eggs that have been abandoned.
We are proud of our customer service and have prepared a number of Information Sheets packed full of practical advice and interesting facts. Find these in the Advice pages. Read and enjoy! Also as part of our customer service, we board chickens while you are on holiday.
If you are having trouble reading this, or any of the pages, click on one of the A icons at the top right of this page to change the size of text to suit you. With some computers the curser changes into a line when you go to the tab you want to click on. This line is fine and will change into a hand when you click. On other computers the curser turns straight into a hand. Just one of those mysteries!
