Opening Hours

We are open weekdays in the evenings from 6.30pm to dusk. We are closed during the day from Mondays to Fridays.

At weekends we are open from 10.30am to dusk both days.

Boarding in and out is after 6.30 each weekday evening and after 11am at weekends.

Rehomes

We know that circumstances change and from time to time we get rehome chickens in. Our policy is to take hens in free and we rehome them at £5 to the new owner to cover their keep here. Unfortunately we get an overriding number of cockerels, and whilst we don't charge the new owners for them, they are usually here for a long time. We therefore charge £5 to take in a cockerel to cover our costs.

Contact us from the tab below if you are interested in taking some rehome hens or a cockerel for free, or need to find a new home for your hens.

Chickenalia

By popular demand we now have a dedicated site to all the wonderful things chicken related. You can browse and order online and pay with Paypal, or shop at the farm when you come over.

Weaners available in September

We have Gloucester Old Spot piglings born on 1 July. Our piglings are weaned at 8 weeks and are then ready to go to their new homes. At 8 weeks old they are £50.

Contact us by email to alison@spottypiggies.co.uk or from the Contact button at the bottom of the page to reserve them. They are popular, so reserving one (or two or three) is best if you can.

Testimonials

Dear Alison,

May I firstly thank you for such an enjoyable and comprehensive website. I have learnt many new things and as a person wishing to keep chickens in the garden for the first time, it has been perfect.

Home > Hatch Your Eggs

Hatch your Eggs

We have capacity in our large Brinsea incubators to hatch your eggs for you. This option is much cheaper than hiring or buying an incubator, but is does mean that you will miss out on seeing the chicks hatch. You will, however, have the chicks that you wanted and can collect them as day olds to brood at home.

It is best that you bring the eggs to us, but you can post them to us if you want to, or ask your supplier to send them direct to us. For example, if you buy fertile eggs off Ebay you can ask the seller to post them to us, rather than to you. If you are not buying by post, then it is better to bring the eggs to us as there are generally better results from eggs that have not been in the post.

We do insist, however, that you collect the chicks as day olds. We can agree the date of hatch with you so that you are able to collect them on a day to suit you.

The eggs will be marked with your identity and you are welcome to put whatever marks on them you would like as well. A full record of you and the breed of chicken will be kept. The eggs will go in their own row in the incubator and will be in their own hatching pod in the hatcher. The empty egg shells will be kept until the chicks are collected.

We only charge for hatched chicks and it is therfore in our interest, as well as yours, to ensure the best hatch rate possible. We have enjoyed a very good hatch rate with the Brinseas and will continue to do so.

Cost

The cost is £2 per hatched chicks. Eggs which do not hatch for whatever reason will not be charged for. Payment is to be made on collection of the chicks.

A candler will be avaliable on collection of the chicks and/or unhatched eggs for you to have a look inside the egg and establish the reason for non-hatch.

Chick Collection

Chicks can be collected after 6pm on the day after hatch, as agreed with you. That date will have been agreed with you when we receive the eggs and you will therefore have at least three weeks notice of that date. This is important as we do not have the facilities to keep the chicks for you beyond the point that they are fully fluffed up and ready to leave the hatcher. Chicks not collected after 24 hours after the agreed date will be considered to have been abandoned and will join our flock. We really do not want this to happen, so please be prompt in collection.

Brooding

We are able to supply you with all you need for brooding as well as chick crumbs and an information sheet to get your new chicks off to a good start.

Email us for the Contact tab below to book your eggs in and look forward to watching your lovely chicks grow up.
