Hi Alison
The chickens have settled in very well. On Sunday only one knew to go to bed and the others huddled miserably together. By Monday night they understood what to do and all marched up the ramp to bed at 9.45pm.The course was brilliant and I learnt so much. I'm glad that we did that before getting chickens.

Vorwerks
.
We have Vorwerks pullets in stock.
These handsome chickens originate in Germany, where they were invented as a new breed by Oskar Vorwerk (pronounces Forverk) in 1900. He actually set out to create a new breed that was economical to keep and was a dual purpose bird. He wanted a bird that was a good egg layer and gave good meat, but that was smaller than the large utility birds and ate less. Personally I do not think it is big enough to give a good amount of meat, but they do lay well and lay up to 170 eggs a year. They lay a white to creamy colour egg.
They are classified as a light breed of chicken and are a rare breed. Numbers are believed to be so small that there is not a Breed Society, but the Rare Poultry Society does include it on its books. A standard was written for the breed in 1913, but it has not really taken off as a popular bird. Here is your chance to put that right!
Vorwerks have a grey beak and grey legs with very distinctive black heads and tail with a brown body. The little flash of white is their ear lobe. The chicks are the opposite colourway, having a black body with a brown head and tail. As they grow and change feathers, they gradually change into the adult colourway.
They are quite a shy bird and will do well in a mixed flock with other calmer birds.
