10th Dec 2009
Hi Alison,
Just wanted to thank you for the excellent course this morning. I learnt an awful lot in those hours and now feel confident about 'despatching' chickens. It was a very friendly atmosphere which helps a lot when you are nervous!!
Well presented and managed - very highly recommended.
Kind regards,
Brenda Morrison

Incubator Instructions
The incubators are automatic, so the only bits you need to do are add water and remember to switch the turning motor off. The incubator must be on a flat surface and in an area where the plugs will not be taken out of the socket for any reason during the 21 day incubation. School cleaners can be a real hazard!
R-Com

This incubator turns on as soon as it is plugged in. Put the eggs into the incubator with the dividers in place and add water until the polystyrene ball floats to the top, before switching the incubator on at the plug. Make sure the clear lid is on correctly; otherwise the incubator will not work.
The water light indicator will tell you when to add water over the 21 days.
On day 19, press SET and TURN. Keep pressing until the Turn light goes out. (24 hours after you put the eggs in and start the incubator is day 1). This will stop the egg rolling process and also take out the dividers so that the eggs can move freely.
If you have the R-Com for the week hire you only need to keep it topped up with water. The incubator will do the rest.
Smart

This incubator has two plugs, one for the turning motor and one for the heating fan. Fill the base of the incubator with water so that the four compartments are fully covered and put the eggs within the tram lines of the white plastic grid. Put the top on and plug in both plugs. The incubator does not need any more water. It is fine for it to be dry. On day 19, turn the base motor plug off and leave the top plug firmly plugged in. This will stop the eggs turning and allow the chicks to gather themselves ready to hatch. 24 hours after you put the eggs in and start the incubator is day 1.
If you have the Smart for the week hire there is no need to do anything. Only the top plug needs to be plugged in and the incubator will do the rest. It does not need water.
Octagon

This incubator has two plugs, one for the turning motor and one for the heating fan. Fill the base of the incubator with water so that the two (Octagon 20) or four (Octagon 40) compartments are full and put the eggs into the black removable tray. Move the wire dividers as necessary to fit the eggs.
On day 19, fill the base up to the same level again with water and remove the incubator from the rocking cradle. (24 hours after you put the eggs in and start the incubator is day 1). Be careful when putting on and taking the incubator off the cradle as the motor can be damaged if the turning arm is forced.
The rocking cradle will rock the incubator to quite an alarming angle. Do not worry, it will not fall off!
Incubator Cardboard Box
If you have the box with the incubator it is essential that the incubator is returned in the box. Do not put anything else in the box, such as the candler, as this may scratch the top of the incubator and ruin it. Please make sure the box is kept somewhere safe while not in use.
